“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! – Luke 24:5-6 NIV
We don’t celebrate a bunny rabbit on Resurrection Sunday. After all he went through, this Holy Week, we cannot minimize what our Savior did on this Holy day. He arose triumphantly. He gained victory over death. He restored us to a right relationship with the Father.
Triumph means there was a battle fought in which he prevailed against opposing, raging forces. His journey to the Cross wasn’t passive. That’s why it’s called the “passion” of the Cross. Still, he triumphed over his opponent, the devil, “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it” (Colossians 2:15). Now, we also triumph in him. “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place” (2 Corinthians 2:14).
He gained victory over death through his death. “O death, where is they sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law” (1 Corinthians 15:55-56). He arose from the dead and became the fulfillment of the law. Now, the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set up free from the law of sin and death. We have the victory.
He restored us and made us sons and daughters of God. “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2). Today, know that you are triumphant. You have the victory. You are restored. You are a son, the offspring of God.
